Family Days Out

Sample the atmosphere and take a ride on an award winning period country railway. A pretty line, relocated station buildings, signal boxes and bridges all lovingly restored and rebuilt. A large and varied collection of operational vintage steam and diesel engines, carriages and wagons that represent much of our Railway Heritage is available to explore around. 

Important information for all visitors: Please note that dogs are not permitted anywhere on the railway site.

Garden Railway 
Visit our attraction for all ages. A few of our volunteers have developed a miniature railway in a Garden Environment. SM32 and G gauge trains run around 100 metres of track through a tunnel, stations and over bridges. Can you find Nessie? Fully functioning most weekends, weather permitting.

7¼" Miniature Railway 
Opened in 2008 this has now been relocated and extended with two new stations, a turntable and 2 new locomotives.  It can be accesed from behind the station building on our "Halstead" platform. The ride is 600 metres long and should operate, weather permitting, on all main railway open days.  For further details  click here

Model Railway 
Two 00 gauge model layouts. Operated by Halstead Model Railway Club. Open only on special days. Call railways for dates. 

Exhibition Centre 
Open most operational Sundays and at special events. See how our railway has developed over the years, and the previous Colne Valley & Halstead Railway's early history. 

Farm Park 
Meander amongst rare breeds in our adjoining Farm Park. Enjoy the woodland picnic area, walk beside the River Colne and wander around animal pens. The Farm Park closes 19th September 2010. 

Signalbox 
This working Signalbox is open for visitors on all operational days. 

'Sidings' Buffet Car 
The 'Sidings' Buffet carriage is open every day the trains are running. A typical menu includes all day breakfasts, light lunches, cream teas, freshly made sandwiches, home made cakes and refreshments. Parties are catered for with menus to suit the occasion. 

Station Shop 
Open all operational days and at special events, stocking a wide selection of Thomas toys and Railway souvenirs.

• Free admission to the Railway complex and rides on ordinary service trains at any time when the Railway is open and operating on public days. 
  
• Valid for a full 12 month period. 
  
• Free admission to the Colne Valley Farm Park when open to the public (open dates for Farm Park are on days when the railway is operation between Saturday 3rd May and Sunday 4th October inclusive - see the timetable for railway days). 
  
• A 50% reduction to your guests when visiting the railway (discount is only available for up to the same number of persons and category as the season ticket). 
  
• A 50% discount for the cardholder(s) to the Day Out with Thomas and Santa events. 
  
• A 10% discount on shop sales (not food, ice creams or drink).
